SAYMYNAME Celebrates Black History Month with 'One Beat'
Founded in 2020 as a benefit livestream by hardstyle-trap festival-favorite SAYMYNAME (aka Dayvid Lundie-Sherman), One Beat has transformed into a platform that advocates for Black dance musicians and supports an inclusive lineup of talent from across the US.
In 2021, at the height of national civil unrest and the hundreds of Black Lives Matter protests in cities across the nation, the LA-based DJ partnered with Insomniac Events to initially launch the One Beat series.
With Insomniac’s help, SAYMYNAME used the platform to start a dialogue on the sensitive topics of race and equity in America. This ultimately led to the recognition of Dayvid’s advocacy work for Black excellence within the realm of electronic dance music.
He is partnering with Insomniac Events once more on February 4th to present One Beat’s first flagship event at Exchange LA. The charity event will feature BLVCK JESUS, MADGRRL, Dack Janiels, Etc!Etc!, and Jmoss b2b Izadi. Portions from tickets sold will benefit the Local Hearts Foundation in Long Beach, California.
“I’m excited to host such a special event and raise money for the Local Hearts Foundation,” said Dayvid. “Working with such great artists for a very special cause is such a rewarding feeling—huge thank you to Insomniac for partnering on this with me.”
Founded by Tito Rodriguez & H.J. Chong eleven years ago, the non-profit organization continues to be at the forefront of many collaborative efforts amidst the city to aid local underserved communities of color.
“Growing up in the Latino community I’ve always wanted to hold it down for my people, especially in the dance scene,” shared progressive trap DJ GAWM, who will be playing the event this Friday. “It’s nice to see the industry curating more culture into their events and bringing that PLUR mentality for all races and ethnicities.”
This new iteration of One Beat will further its mission to raise awareness about the lack of Black representation in dance music while raising funds for a nonprofit that has supported local youth in the LA community for over a decade.“This charity supports our local communities and inspires the youth to achieve their dreams,” said BLVCK JESUS, who will perform a B2B set with MADGRRL at the event. “It’s important to help others, raise awareness of issues, and bring everyone together to work for a cause.”
SAYMYNAME will donate to the Local Hearts Foundation, and $5 of each ticket sold will also go to the organization.
Tickets to the event are available for purchase at Exchange LA’s website.
