This Week In Garage: SUPR SPRT, Dirty Bird, Swami Sound, Dazegxd, & Todd Edwards
I’ve been out more times in the last seven days than most people go out this year, but that’s just the beauty of New York City. So this week, we’re keeping it short and sweet with a release from one of New York City’s finest, a live mix by the three pioneers of New York City garage, and a throwback from an east coast legend.
New Release of the Week: SUPR SPRT - Girl U Perfect
If there’s one thing Brooklyn-based SUPR SPRT excels at transforming ubiquitous pop into fresh and spicy garage. His edits build on identifiable samples. However, the Brooklyn beatsmith manipulates the sound rendering something entirely new and completely him. His latest single—and first one of the year—“Girl U Perfect” is an upbeat, club-ready track perfect for any summer function.
Mix of the Week: Dirty Bird, dazegxd, and Swami Sound - Live @ Homage Brewing
Once Dazegxd posted a clip of Swami Sound and them blending Jorja Smith x Preditah’s “On My Mind” and NOIDE’s edit of Madjo’s “Lady,” I knew I had to listen to this whole live set. If you’ve not experienced a Dirty Bird, Swami Sound, or Dazegxd set - you’re fucking up. Thankfully, they recorded their b3b at Los Angeles’ Homage Brewing. It’s over two hours of garage and whatever else they felt like playing at the time. It won’t disappoint. Trust.
Throwback of the Week: Todd Edwards - End This Hate - 12” Extended Version
Todd Edwards is technically from New Jersey, but with his work at Nervous Records and his involvement in expanding east coast garage house, the UK garage music we’re all here for would have never been the same. His 1999 “Dancing For Heaven” sits amongst Edward’s many Nervous tracks, but its soulful vocals and seductive rhythms exemplify why he’s simply the best.
