This Week in House Music: Majorettes, DJ Holographic, Cross End, Maceo Plex & Omar S
I'm writing this from Detroit before I head into the third and final day of Movement 2022, so I've been properly immersed in dance music this holiday weekend and thriving. Experiencing Juan Atkin's techno history lesson as he played some of its earliest tracks and futuristic classics from his Model 500 and Cybotron aliases was everything I needed. So, for this edition of This Week in House, I wanted to offer a little slice of Detroit and Movement. Enjoy!
Best New Track: Majorettes - House Amazing (DJ Holographic Remix) (Major Records NYC, May 27)
Amazing! Brooklyn-based house collective the Majorettes tap rising Detroit star DJ Holographic to remix their joyful 2021 track "House Amazing," resulting in an infectiously groovy six-minutes of housey joy. It's Holographic's first release of the year, and kicked off a big weekend for her, where she shared a stellar house set the first day of Movement at the Detroit Love Stargate Stage takeover. She also kept us dancing and vibing into the morning at the Detroit Love afterparty at Spot Lite.

Best New Mix: Recording 003 - Cross End @ Boneca London w/ Maceo Plex
This week's mix comes from Maceo Plex, who brought Movement into the darkness during his stellar sunset set at the Pyramid stage on Sunday. This hour-and-twenty-minute mix is a B2B with London's Cross End for the third edition of his Crossings series, "which captures very special moments we shared with friends." It offers a somewhat more chilled and deep side of Maceo's sound, perfect to play when decompressing with friends after a rave or while powering through work the next day. It features deep tunes from Hyenah and Aquarius Heaven ("Once a Man"), Hiver Laver ("Little Helper"), and more.

Best Classic Track: "200001," Omar S(2000, FXHE Records)
Omar S is a Detroit legend and continues to innovate in house and techno and rep the D with pride. His first release came at the turn of the century in a limited white label run. The closing track is 6 minutes of minimal house perfection with a hypnotic groove that ebbs and flows.
