British duo Ivy Lab has teamed up with the Deadbeats label to release their newest EP, Double Blind. Double Blind further solidifies the group’s prominent presence in the bass music scene by featuring three tracks that span a range of styles and emotions.
As minimal as they are innovative, Ivy Lab seamlessly blends left-field bass with various genres in an exploration of feeling and style. Ivy Lab showcases its creative drive and raw talent with three wildly different tracks.
On the opening title track, a brash, cheeky beat builds hype into what the group describes as a “skatepark anthem.” “Melrose” recalls the group’s more uptempo, early catalog with a cocky rap swagger. Finally, “SVCAR” takes the listener on a hypnotically dark and slightly skewed journey before slowing to a downtempo end.
The union between Ivy Lab and Zeds Dead’s flagship label, Deadbeats, seems like the perfect fit. The Ivy Lab signature sound packs a big punch even with their minimalist production style. With a combination of under-produced hip hop and future bass, they are alluringly hip. Their repertoire - which they host mainly on their breakthrough 20/20 LDN record label - spans from drum machine electronica to offbeat ambient.
The Double Blind EP follows their successful Coachella performance for the DoLab last month. And on the horizon - a summer festival run that includes Lightning In A Bottle, Bass Coast, and Shambhala Music Festival - along with upcoming summer tour dates with Flume and G Jones.
Though they may have moved from club nights in Brixton to massive festival stages, Ivy Lab has never lost their innovative, hip Brit energy. In the decade since they met in the UK bass music scene, they’ve created an impressive trajectory for themselves. Double Blind is just more gas on that fire.
