This Week in House Music: Pheelz & AMÉMÉ, Analog Soul & Demon
Bonjour from Paris, the final leg of my European adventure. I hope everyone has been enjoying some good music and vibes, and staying hydrated and cool during this hot ass summer. For this fourteenth(!) edition of This Week in House Music, the Best New Track is a blissful summer Afro house tune.
Best New Track: Pheelz featuring BNXN - Finesse (AMÉMÉ Funk Mix) [July 8, Riidiimacool]
Nigerian artist and producer Pheelz taps Benin-born Afro house maestro AMÉMÉ for the latest remix of his biggest track to date, "Finesse," featuring Nigerian singer BNXN. On both remixes, AMÉMÉ speeds up the BPM and adds a grooving deep house beat. The Funk Mix adds a bit of funky flavor and is perfect for a sweaty dancefloor, sunset boat cruise, or catching poolside vibes.

Best Classic Track: Demon - You Are My High [1999, Help Yourself / Sony]
Since I'm writing you from Paris, it's only proper to tap into the rich well of vibes of French Touch. "You Are My High" from Demon, aka French producer Jérémie Mondon, is a groover that sounds like falling in love. It samples legendary funk purveyors The Gap Band from their 1979 song of the same name. The infamous music video features only a close-up of a couple French kissing. The French Touch classic is the closing track on Demon's 1999 debut album, Midnight Funk, an important project for the beloved genre. DJ Snake sampled it for his 2021 single of the same name, including a version with Future.
