This Week In Garage: Oppidan, salute, Tommy Villiers, Pocket, Gemi & DJ EZ
It’s Leo season, and to celebrate the best season of the year, you’re getting a shit ton of new releases. This week, we've got soul samples, disco vibes, and wistful melodies, PLUS over three hours from a UKG legend for Boiler Room.
New Releases of the Week
Oppidan - Send It [Night Bass Records]
Bristol beatsmith Oppidan’s latest release “Send It” is filled with everything I love in a garage flip. Starting with scintillating keys and a pitched-down ‘90s R&B sample. The Night Bass protégé then cleverly chops the vocals and blends them with palpitating percussion that makes up the track’s catchy beat.

salute - Sternenhimmel [Steel City Dance Discs]
In quintessential salute fashion, “Sternenhimmel” pulls at the heartstrings with warm, cozy atmospheres that eccentrically contrast his blistering drum patterns. The single comes from the Manchester producer’s upcoming EP, Ultra Pool, which will be available everywhere on August 18 via Steel City Dance Discs.

LF SYSTEM - Afraid to Feel (Tommy Villiers Remix) [Warner Music UK]
Tommy Villiers’ remix of “Afraid to Feel” and it’s so addictive that I haven’t stopped listening to it since it dropped a few days ago. Villier’s reimagination of the original keeps the soul of disco and house through its evocative, yearning vocals and makes it club-ready by putting them atop frenetic patters that make up the tune's lush beat.

Pocket - Wax [Warner Music UK]
London’s Pocket has been on our radar since he debuted his artist project in 2021. His idiosyncratic, dreamy melodies landed him a slot on Mixmag’s list of 25 artists to watch in 2022 and he hasn’t disappointed us. In “Wax,” Pocket delivers his usual introspective energy, but offers a hopeful twist through future bass-like fluttering synths.

Gemi x NOTION - Closer [Self-Released]
Continuously leading the charge on NUKG is a personal favorite, Gemi. In his latest, the London beatmaker teams up with bass-heavy NOTION for a dynamically sweet collaboration that boasts spellbinding vocals, uptempo percussion, and fluctuant synths.
