This Week In Techno: Charles D.

One of the hottest rising stars in the world of techno, and melodic techno is New York City native Charles D. When legends of electronic music like Eric Prydz and Adam Beyer praise a young artist, it is a sign that the world should listen. It is incredibly rare for Eric Prydz to invite an artist on tour and to release on his label. Prydz proteges like Cristoph and Jeremy Olander have since become stars in their own right. 

After Prydz began playing out Charles' single, "You," everything took off. Charles quickly began popping up as support for many Eric Prydz performances and has since signed multiple records to the legendary Pryda label. Charles's mature sound is a high-end mix of techno, with strong melodies and advanced synth layering. His arrow is pointed straight up, and if we needed another sign, Adam Beyer releasing his remix of the iconic "Your Mind" should do it. Charles' take on the legendary track is refreshing and gives the listener a true sense of what to expect from his sound. After almost a year of playing it out, it's finally out on Drumcode.

Charles D Live at Radius - ARC Music Festival After Party - 2021

Charles D has mastered the ability to not only throw down a massive headlining set but also properly set the stage for another headliner. In 2021 he had the opportunity to open for his mentor Eric Prydz at what was surely a legendary show at Radius in Chicago, one of the city's largest and most impressive venues. Watch as Charles takes us through his discography, playing his own songs and unreleased tunes for a solid 90-minute set.

As mentioned above, "You" was a true breakthrough track for Charles D. After sending it to Eric Prydz for review, Eric spent the subsequent months playing it out live before eventually signing it and releasing it on Pryda records. The track is timeless and will surely be a mainstay in Charles's sets for years to come.
